Perfecting your job search with Shy Apply
Step 1: Complete Your Profiles on Job Application Websites
To get the most out of the Shy Apply tool, ensure your profiles on LinkedIn and Indeed are fully filled out. Employers often check your profile at least once or twice, so you want to double check that it matches both your resume and the information you enter into the Shy Apply app.
It's also important to remember that most employers now utilize automation software to filter out candidates, so be bold when it comes to talking about your achievements and experience to improve your chances of passing the screening process.
LinkedIn:
- Fill out your contact details (email, phone, full name) under "Settings and Privacy"
- Add an About section where you summarize your experience and skills.
- Fill out the Experience and Education sections.
- List the most relevant skills (e.g., languages, interpersonal skills, tools, etc.)
Indeed:
- At the top right on the screen, click the Person Icon, go to Profile, and update your contact information.
- Upload your resume (ideally, the same one you will add to your Shy Apply profile in the next step).
- Edit job preferences for salary and location (optional, but these fields change which jobs the platform will offer).
- Add education, skills, and other qualifications.
A well-rounded profile increases your chances of standing out to employers. If you are concerned about a lack of on-paper qualifications fear not, there are 100% free courses that you can take (and add to your resume!) from prestigious universities.
Here are some examples from Harvard and MIT.
Step 2: Create a Profile in the Shy Apply App
Inside the Shy Apply desktop application, sign in, then click Create Profile. Creating this profile will take mere minutes. Be sure to enter complete and accurate information and double-check your details, as misspelled information may end up in job applications.
If you are searching for work in different locations (such as Remote and In-Person) you should create a profile for each location. You can switch profiles between each search.
This is also useful if you’re searching for jobs which have very different titles but overlapping skills (such as Software Engineering and Developer Operations).
Pro Tip!
Using terms like "Full Time" "Part Time" and "Hiring Now" as your job title also work.
Step 3: Start Using Shy Apply
Once your profile is complete, click the Submit Applications button at the bottom right of the main screen. Sit back, relax, and let Shy Apply take care of the rest! Feel free to use Chrome while Shy Apply is applying for jobs. Make sure to check your email to see your confirmations and to reply to employers looking to schedule interviews.
NOTE - Shy Apply is being continuously developed to improve it’s capabilities and features. We will occasionally update this page to help users improve their chances of a successful job hunt, so check back once per month or so!
